Site Update! We’re Alive! Suggestions Anyone?

Hey everyone!

Its been a while since there’s been any new posts on AppAholic, so I thought I’d give you a bit of an update as to what’s going on! Long time subscriber? Please read for ending questions.

As some of you may or may not know, I’m a university student, and I have exams coming up very soon! I have spent a lot of time over the last month with revision, getting ready for my exams, and meeting up with people from home over the Easter holiday. I have also taken some time out of the site to work on the development of a few ideas, which hopefully you will see here eventually.

Another reason for the lack of posts, is due to a lack of content ideas! Previously, I’ve normally had some idea of what the next review could be. I have a few stock ideas, but nothing really compelling like usual for me. Spotify, my last review, has proven to be one of the most successful new freeware in the market I’ve seen! I just feel its hard to match the quality!

If anyone has any ideas of freeware, I’d be more than glad to hear from you, especially if you write your own freeware, and haven’t yet got any media coverage. (Even if you have, still contact me!). Fancy yourself as a reviewer? You could write a guest article for the site. I’ll post the email address at the end of this post.

In other areas, I have also started doing more on CrossLoop, a remote computer help service. If you have any computer problems or issues, or even just questions, feel free to chat with me live here ( I charge very little compared to other “experts” on the site. No fix, no fee, and always free estimates.

AppAholic’s sister site TechRant is starting to pick up, with a few new authors joined! We were event contact by a gadget website to review some of their products. Sounds good to me! Fancy writing for TechRant? Send me 2 sample articles, and we will discuss it further. Email address at the end of the post.

We have also had major changes to the advert system here at AppAholic. We used to use just google adsense, and then moved to using text link ads also, however due to the recent re-structure of the page rank system, text link ads are no longer in use. At current, there is some adsense, at the top of the page before the first post, and some adverts down the sidebar.

If you would like to advertise on my site, the current rate is $1 a week for a 125*125 image. You can either do this by finding the link on the sidebar to your right, or clicking this link ( With a price so low, I ask you if your a web master, give it a try.

Also, webmasters, what advert system do you use, if any? This site isn’t out there to make money, but it does need to support it’s own costs.

Finally, for all those long time subscribers, thankyou. A few questions I would appreciate your opinion on. What changes, if any, would you make to the sidebar of the site? Do you just read in your RSS reader, or often visit the site? What can I offer registered users of the site as opposed to non registered users? Or as registered users, what would you like to see?

Thanks. Any other comments or suggestions in general are welcome via the comments below.

  1. I read by rss feed, and I will usually only open articles that i find very interesting (out of 500 others) to visit the actual sites. Occasionally i open appaholic, but usually i read from google reader

  2. I check the site quite often. Never RSS or anything.

One problem thou, since the update the page’s gotten unbearably slow. It took me 28 secs to load the front page, and even longer to get into this article. I usually load sites within a few secs.

I live in Sweden, so I suppose that might be the problem.

  3. Hi,

I read your entire blog in the last 48 hours and liked it a lot.
All your posts are very interesting stuff!
Greetings from Brazil, and keep your nice work!
PS.: Page 7 ( has a little formatting error, you may want to take a look: apparently, font size has changed in html post code and extend it to the other ones, till end of that page!

  4. Thanks for the quality feedback people.
I am very aware of the slow loading time for the site. I plan to get it re-designed this summer by a professional, and completely revamp every section of the site.
Thanks Xcobar, I have sorted that problem on page 7 now, had no idea!
    Thanks again for the comments.

  5. It wouldn’t be due to your location. It is slow for everyone. The reason it is slow at the moment I believe is due to appaholic’s host and the less than lightweight wordpress install.

Regarding what you could review, you could maybe try reviewing twhirl or tweetdeck, but the problem with twitter clients is that they are all tailored for different uses and all have the same basic features.
